Johann Sebastian Bach

By the beginning of October Gyldendal will publish my latest book, a book on Bach’s life and music. Curiously - considering Bach’s enormous popularity - it seems to be the only full-scale Bach-biography ever in Danish.

On Saturday the 8th of November during BogForum, the annual Danish book-event, I will discuss the book with Danish harpsichordist Lars Ulrik Mortensen. Lars Ulrik can be heard in dozens of highly praised Bach-recordings, not least all of Bach’s 15 concerti for one or more harpsichords. In 2007 he received the Sonning Prize.

I begyndelsen af oktober udkommer min seneste  bog, “Jord og himmel, lyt”, på forlaget Gyldendal - en bog om Bachs liv og musik. Sært nok er det tilsyneladende den eneste Bach-biografi på dansk i nyere tid.

På BogForum i Bellacentret lørdag den 8. november kl 11.45 samtaler jeg med cembalisten Lars Ulrik Mortensen om bogen. Lars Ulrik medvirker på snesevis af Bach-indspilninger, ikke mindst alle Bachs 15 koncerter for et eller flere cembali. I 2007 modtog han Sonningprisen.

During 2013 I had a series of conversations with Lars Lilholt, an ikon of Danish popular music culture. The result became a book which draws a motley picture of the colossal variety in Danish music and also of two creators of music who have - despite all the evident differences - quite a bit in common. The title of the book comes from one of Lars’ most popular songs.

At BogForum, the annual Danish book-event, on Sunday the 9th of November at 5 pm Lars and I will discuss the book with it’s editor, Henrik Marstal, and there will of course be time for some music.

I løbet af 2013 havde jeg en række samtaler med Lars Lilholt, et ikon i dansk populærmusik. Det udviklede sig til en bog som tegner et varieret billede både af den kolossale bredde i dansk musikliv og af to musikskabere som - trods alle åbenlyse forskelligheder - har en hel del til fælles. Bogens titel er hentet fra en af Lars’ mest populære sange, “Kære øjeblik”.

På BogForum i Bellacentret søndag den 9. november ca. kl 17 samtaler Lars og jeg med bogens tilrettelægger Henrik Marstal, og et par musikindslag bliver der naturligvis også tid til.

Gershwin live

I anledning af min bog "Alle farver - alle sjæle" om George Gershwins liv og musik (Gyldendal november 2013) samtaler jeg med Marie Tetzlaff ved et "Louisiana Live" arrangement 25.3  kl. 19.30 om Gershwins særpræg og personlighed. Den amerikanske bassist og jazz-vokalist Kristin Korb og hendes trio spiller nye versioner af en række Gershwin jazz-standards.

Concerto in Amber, uropførelse

Den 24 september kl. 20 uropfører Concerto Copenhagen min "Rav-koncert" i Den sorte Diamant. Værket er det ansete barokensembles første bestilling nogensinde og er det første nutidige værk som indgår i deres repertoire. Ensemblets barokstrygere spiller sammen med den internationalt velkendte Rascher saxofonkvartet og værket modstiller således på en concerto grosso lignende måde to meget forskellige klangverdener fra to forskellige tidsaldre. Aftenens program består hovedsagelig af musik af Bach.
Senere på sæsonen opfører Concerto Copenhagen og Rascher kvartetten værket flere gange i Tyskland.

Concerto in Amber, world premiere

On the 24th of September Concerto Copenhagen will present the world premiere of Rasmussen's Concerto in Amber. The piece represents the first commission ever from the Danish period ensemble and the first addition of a contemporary piece to their baroque repertoire. The baroque strings of the ensemble will be joined by the internationally well-known Rascher saxophone quartet in a kind of concerto grosso counterposing the sound world of two different times. 
The concert, featuring mainly music by Bach, is at 8 PM in the Black Diamond concert hall at the Copenhagen harbor.
Later this year Concerto Copenhagen will present the work on tour in Germany.
